Sarah’s House

Last night I was watching HGTV and fell in love with Sarah’s House. Sarah Richardson completely renovated a 60s back-split house and this show took you through the process and unveiled the final product – which was amazing.

They showed the nursery and it was one of the nurseries I showcased on my blog a few days ago.  Since the whole house is fabulous, I wanted to show you more!

Looks like she’s working on a farm house in Season Three … going to set my DVR!

… to my new desk chair.

Simply ask and you shall receive!

I found this chair at a garage sale tonight and we got a great deal on it!  I love the style, it’s very comfortable and sturdy.

My original plan was to find a desk chair & paint it, but Tyler may refinish it instead. The verdict is still out.

Yesterday I had an inquiry about helping a friend with her Sunroom. We haven’t met to discuss the details, but I immediately got inspired by the project.

This sunroom is beautiful! I love the sofa, the French grey, simple window treatments & beautiful floors!

I love the painted floors and fresh feel of this room. The colors are subtle, yet fun and it’s a good use of space.

I think a cozy built in window seat is ideal.  

This Sunroom is a bit formal, but elegant and inviting.  

Mmmmm … you can’t go wrong with a punch of hot pink!

A series of botanical prints would be a fabulous and appropriate way to decorate your walls!

life on Princess St

Welcome into our home. 

And yes.  We live on Princess Street.

My dear husband & I purchased this house in 2006 and we’re slowly making it “ours”.

It’s a work in progress but we love the challenges and projects.  We have a laundry list of To Do items, but are taking it one step at a time and balancing it with our careers and raising our tiny tot.

Here’s a glimpse into my new “office” space & my daughter's play space.  A.K.A. a small section of our Living Room.

Bella needed a place to play (outside her nursery) and I needed our Living Room back!  It had been swallowed by Bella’s toys.

Using a low bookshelf  behind our sofa allowed me to visually separate the spaces and provides plenty of storage for my design books and toys.

  

I found wire baskets to hold the toys.  They have handles so can be carried when B is ready to play.

You can see the sofa is red but I’m on the lookout for inexpensive creamy durable fabric to make a slipcover. I would love to cover the sofa and lounge chair so they’re neutral.

This photo gives you a better idea of the layout of the space, however, I hesitated to even show this picture! 

A few items on my To Do list:

1. Paint desk & add new hardware

2. Find a desk chair!

3. New window treatments! (these came with the house … gasp!)

4. Paint the desk lamp and see how it turns out!

5. Storage. Storage. Storage!

This table and chairs is on the wall behind the bookshelf and gives Bella a place to stand and play.  I’m going to paint the table …. not sure what color yet …

 

Family photos I hung today.  We want to “grow” the collection, but this is a start.

We recently found out that we’re going to welcome our 2nd nephew in August!

  This of course got me thinking about precious baby boys & nurseries!! 

My sister is well on her way with the design of her nursery but here are a few other images that may inspire her & other future mommies!

What a serene space for a little boy! I’m not a huge fan of murals, but this mural is subtle which allows you focus on the beautiful furniture and accessories in the room.

We all know I love a neutral nursery!  These are fabulous & I particularly love the lounge chair!

 

This sleek and unique rocking chair is available at Serena & Lily. It would add a bit of character to any room.       

This lounge chair and ottoman have great shape and style & are a perfect size to cuddle your baby, yet not take up too much room in the nursery.

A classic white lamp with a bit of a modern twist!

I gravitate towards this nursery, however it has a bit much going on for my taste. I love the crib, love the walls, lettering and placement of art. I think the window treatments are simple and the fabric adds interest to the room – it’s a bit unexpected. 

However, I would tone down the fabric on the chair & I’m not sure what I think about the wooden spheres.

This nursery has a great closet. They seem to have utilized all space available and made it visually pleasing at the same time! Hats off to a Mom who can keep her baby’s closet that organized.

If there’s one thing I love, it’s a monogram.

Anything personalized is simply wonderful!

Personalized sheets, napkins, pillows and linens give a special touch to any dinner table, Bedroom or Powder Room.

I dream of having monogrammed china one day….

This slipcover in itself is unique and adding the touch of a tone on tone monogram makes it fabulous!

This monogrammed chair, designed by Thomas Messel, is to die for.  Although this chair has a “C” and “M” for Charlotte Moss’ showroom, the original “Diana Princess of Wales Chair was part of a suite commissioned by Kensington Palace for the Mario Testino exhibition of his photos of Princess Diana.  The shield back incorporated an initial D, interlaced & reversed.

Do you have any special personalized items in your home?

Bella’s big girl room

We all knew it would happen.

And I’ve been thinking about it for months. 

Okay let’s not kid ourselves.

Years

But who would have guessed that my dear husband would mention that I need to start designing Bella’s big girl room only seven days after her first birthday?

Just in case I haven’t said it before, I’ll say it again … he is my soul mate.

So tonight, my ideas and thoughts are coming to fruition.

I know a few things

Her room has to be as special as she is.  It needs to compliment her personality and be fun and sweet as pie yet sassy.

Although there will be touches of pink, it will not be all pink. That is too expected.

We need storage!

The room will need to grow with her. My theory with nurseries & children’s rooms is to keep the basics neutral or easily revamped to fit a new style room (whether it be for a little brother or sister, guest bedroom, or Bella’s big girl room #2 … because if she’s anything like me, she will want to change the look of her room as often as she changes her clothes).

I want as much input from B as possible.  Obviously with her nursery I (with Tyler’s blessings) selected the style, color & decor. But ever since she was born, we’ve read design magazines together and I’ve shown her photos and we discussed colors and styles.  If she reacted with a smile or positive response I tore out the page and filed it away because she obviously loved it.

So if she can give feedback, I’ll take it and run.

I’ve been holding onto a Peacock Blue velvet for quite some time and have always imagined it would be beautiful with pinks & whites/creams.

This is going to be my main color palette.

As of today.

If I find another fabulous fabric, I can be persuaded.

I love the shape of this headboard. Love.

I found this photo & think a storage basket at the end of her bed is adorable. I would possibly add a cushion or pillows (if the basket is sturdy) and have it double as a bench.

I also like these two photos … nothing in particular, just think they’re both sweet.
